Masterclass outline and learning objectives:

Section 1): ACL Injury Prevention Programs with Brooke Patterson and Randall Cooper (35mins)

1) Understand why primary prevention of ACL injuries is important
2) Know the prevalence of ACL injuries and risk factors
3) Understand what an injury reduction program should look like
4) Understand the benefits of an injury reduction program
5) Appreciate the barriers to implementation of injury reduction programs
6) Understand the role a physiotherapist can play in education and delivery of injury reduction programs

Section 2) Non-operative ACL Management with Mick Hughes and Adam Culvenor (70mins)

1) Understand the evidence surrounding non-operative ACL management in the short, medium and long terms
2) Understand the risks v benefits of pursuing a non-operative ACL management plan
3) Understand the clinical assessment algorithm to identify potential copers and non-copers following ACL injury
4) Understand the prognostic factors of who are more likely to have a successful outcome pursuing a non-operative ACL plan

Section 3) Non-operative ACL Rehabilitation with Randall Cooper and Mick Hughes (30mins)

1) Understand best practice, evidence-based exercise prescription options for the management of non-operative ACL injuries
2) Understand the role of contemporary adjuncts to exercise for non-operative ACL management (eg. BFR, anti-gravity treadmill)
3) Understand how the Melbourne ACL Rehabilitation Guide has been adapted for the management of non-operative ACL injuries

Section 4) ACL injury and Knee Osteoarthritis with Adam Culvenor and Brooke Patterson (30mins)

1) Understand the burden of posttraumatic osteoarthritis after ACL injury
2) Appreciate how to assess early osteoarthritis after ACL injury and to identify risk factors to target in rehabilitation programs
3) Know the prevalence of osteoarthritis features in asymptomatic, uninjured adults
4) Determine the relationship between returning to sport after ACL injury and future osteoarthritis outcomes
5) Be able to incorporate aspects of a posttraumatic osteoarthritis prevention program and optimal education into ACL rehabilitation
